ABOUT US
At the heart of the Gracie Barra Family’s extraordinary success over the years is our strong philosophy and mission as a group—a foundation which our masters laid many years ago but is constantly being reinforced by the great people that make up our community. Jiu-Jitsu is a beautiful art, and we have a vision of how it should be taught as a means for individual development, going beyond the competitive realm. To achieve this vision, we must remember to come together as a family, always putting the team before the individual. For that, we will fight to the end for what we believe is right.

My kids have been going to Gracie Barra Aliso for 2 years now, it’s been amazing watching them grow in their confidence and abilities as they were welcomed into a team that feels more like a family every day. The professors and coaching staff are a true high point of the program. From my shy 4 year old daughter to adults looking to try the same Jiu-Jitsu they’ve been hearing about for years, all are met at their levels with an approachable and structured method that works for everyone I’ve seen try it. I finally got on the mat and started training at 30 years old i couldn’t be happier. BryanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My son has gone to both the Irvine HQ location and to Professor Pedro's gym in Aliso Viejo for 2 years (1x/wk and 2x/wk, respectively). While both are fantastic for energetic kids, this GB has been especially exceptional with the discipline and fundamental mechanics aspect of the art. My son used to struggle with dealing with a school bully. He's now 8yo, he's surpassed all of our expectations in BJJ proficiency and now enjoys beating up his dad on a regular basis! 😂😂 Anthony GonzalezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. there are not words to express how grateful I am to be a part of this community. They have embraced my son like no other team or coach has. His self-confidence and courage has made a tremendous leap forward. Thank you to all the coaches and everyone involved, including the other students. Joshua Estebo (Joshloc777)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I started practicing jiu-jitsu recently and I’m really enjoying it. The environment is friendly, the instructors are patient, and every class pushes me to improve. It’s a tough workout, but I leave feeling stronger, more confident, and motivated to come back. Great place for beginners and experienced students alike. We’ve had such a great experience at Gracie Barra Aliso Viejo! The coaches are professional, courteous, and truly dedicated to creating a positive and supportive environment for all students. It’s a great place to learn self-defense, build confidence, and get a really good workout. Even as a parent watching from the sidelines, I’ve found myself learning the moves and appreciating the technique behind them. I highly recommend Gracie Barra Aliso Viejo to anyone looking for high-quality instruction and a welcoming community. frost familyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We love Gracie Barra! The whole team is full of good energy and it shows in every class. I’ve got two girls (age 3&5) who are new to this kind of movement, but the attention they receive each class has helped them improve and grow. You can tell everyone is very dedicated to their work and it makes every visit a pleasure. Would highly recommend! Shayan NejadianTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is hands down the greatest BJJ gym in all of south county. The Professors and coaches are all world class, and they instill a culture of learning at this Gracie Barra school. Unlike other BJJ schools, here, there is structure and a system of progression which helps the practitioner because you have a clear vision of the expectations and thus you can focus on mastery of techniques. I love this school. I love the professors. I highly encourage everyone to visit this school because it will transform your life just as it did for mine. Cody BrownsteinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I'm learning so much here thanks to the clear instruction and patience of the professors and coaches. The atmosphere is supportive: everyone pushes each other to get better while keeping training safe and positive. The gym is always clean and well cared for, which shows how much pride everyone takes in the environment. I also have my 4-year-old son enrolled in classes. He's always excited to go and stays engaged throughout. The professors and coaches give every kid plenty of personal attention. They strike the perfect balance between fun, respect, discipline, and real self-defense skills. If you're a family looking for an activity that builds confidence, discipline, and connection while keeping everyone active, Gracie Barra Aliso Viejo is an amazing place to train.Google rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 75 reviews
About
Carlos Gracie Jr
Carlos Gracie Jr. was born on January 17, 1956, and grew up under the strong influence of his family of fighters. In sync with the life philosophy and teachings of his father, Carlos Gracie Sr., Carlinhos – as he is called by friends and relatives – observed and learned from some of the most influential figures in the Gracie family of all time: Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, and his brother Rolls Gracie. The most significant years of his childhood and adolescence were spent in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro, in the legendary house of Teresópolis – a ranch with dozens of rooms where the children of Carlos Gracie and Helio Gracie lived and trained together for years. It was there that Carlos Gracie Jr. learned to live in a community where everyone needed to coexist, share things, and learn from each other, a life dynamic that became an ideal for him. In many ways, Master Carlos Gracie Jr. seems to replicate this idea of community on a large scale today at Gracie Barra.
